As the seasons change, our skincare needs change and they don’t stop at the face. Our skin is an organ and since it’s the only one on the outside, it is the last to receive benefits and is often exposed to environmental forces.

When the humidity in the air drops, our skin can begin to feel more dry, and if you already have dry skin, it might feel tight or even itchy. It can also look lackluster. As we age, our skin’s natural exfoliation slows, too, so it’s important to help it along. Exfoliation is key to keeping your skin resilient.

Here are some ways you can tend to the body’s skin during the cool seasons ahead:

Add Oil Into Your Skincare Routine

A tip I have shared with clients who have dry skin is to add the supplement to their diet. My favorite is the Nordic Naturals Beauty Borage Oil. It can help alleviate dry skin, especially in cold months. It is said that liquids are absorbed more easily inside the body rather than when applied topically, so that is the form I ingest. It’s a plant-based GLA that helps skin from within. I’ve used it for softer skin for years & it has worked wonders. Of course, consult with your healthcare provider before adding any supplement to your regimen.

Switch Up Your Shower Routine

Consider a ritual of pre-shower dry brushing your body at least once a week. This really helps and is worth adding to your beauty routine. Dry brushing makes the skin feel smoother because it actually exfoliates dead skin cells. It also feels invigorating as it increases circulation. Dry brushing enhances the outer appearance of skin and prepares it to absorb product more efficiently so you can use less of it.

When you’re in the shower, consider using a scrub, preferably one with an oil base. Note that there’s a difference between salt and sugar scrubs. Both will aid in exfoliation, but sugar is finer and better for sensitive skin. Salt tends to have larger particles and works well exfoliating rougher or thicker skinned areas such as feet, elbows and knees. Be mindful and skip a salt scrub if you shave your legs and consider a sugar-based scrub instead.

Try refraining from bathing in water that is really hot. This tends to make skin feel drier in cool, dry months.

Consider applying a body care oil after bathing. Well-made oils will sink into the skin and moisturize each layer. The best one I’ve ever found is Maya Chia’s The Revitalizer. It’s chock full of omega fatty acids which deeply nourish & soften skin.

Keep Taking Care Of Your Face

Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize. Creams and lotions are indispensable after it’s cooler and humidity breaks.

Use a lip scrub! It’s an awesome way to exfoliate and keep lips soft. I love using this in an evening routine.

My Product Picks For The Season

Rosemira Organics Refine Me Petals & Spice Body Scrub

Great things come in small packages! Rosemira Organics Refine Me Petals & Spice Body Scrub is rich! It has the most intoxicating scent for cool weather and leaves skin feeling smooth as butter and softly-scented like a holiday.

Maya Chia The Revitalizer

This feels thin & light to the touch but is very rich. It softens, smooths and hydrates. Great for post bathing, and the scent is light & pretty.

Rosemira Organics Pineapples & Cream Cleanser

Rosemira Organics Pineapples & Cream Cleanser

From Rosemira Organics, this beauty is creamy and has a potent dose of enzymes in it from the pineapple part of the bromeliad family. I do two passes with it, first to rinse off the day’s film and then to leave on as a mask for about 10 minutes before tussling off. It leaves behind brighter, firmer, exfoliated and soft-as-a-baby’s-bottom skin.

Rosemira Organics My Present Creme de Corps Body Lotion

This stuff smells like how every woman wants to smell. A very emollient lotion, it appears as a creme but has great slip and spreads easily. Plus it’s in a little jar that travels well. It also fits into a handbag for everyday use! It’s so delicately and exotically scented that it doubles as my fragrance on many days.

Rosemira Organics Sweet Coconut Body Butter

I enjoy this product so much, I use it for my clients’ hand and arm treatments. It has a citrus scent, and a little goes a long way! It’s awesome for cuticles and elbows—another body product that travels well because it’s more solid in its container and won’t spill.

Rosemira Organics Let’s Go Lymph Energizing Foot & Body Scrub

Another amazing product from Rosemira Organics, this scrub is pretty fantastic. It’s my go-to for an at-home foot scrub year round, but particularly in cold months because of its pumice scrub consistency and the refreshingly scented oils it’s built into. Once rinsed off feet are smooth & very moisturized!

Rosemira Organics Coconut Verbena Sea Salt Body Scrub

Rosemira Organics Coconut Verbena Sea Salt Body Scrub

This scrub is super fresh scented. The larger particles do a great job exfoliating and it leaves behind the perfect amount of oils to rub in post bathing-and go!

Steel Birch Studio’s Pine & Peppermint Sugar Scrub

Steel Birch Studio’s Pine & Peppermint Sugar Scrub

This product smells incredible! Ladies, don’t let the addition of pine stop you from trying this-it will still leave you enveloped in a special earthy feminine scent that’s hard to resist. It’s at the shop!

Steel Birch Studio’s Tangerine & Vanilla Lip Scrub

Steel Birch Studio’s Tangerine & Vanilla Lip Scrub

This is a favorite of mine! It’s one of my go-tos in facials, and clients always ask, “What is that!?! It smells so good!” It works great to finely exfoliate the lips leaving behind enough oil to moisturize them too.

Rosemira Organics Thank You Very Much Lip Balm

Hilariously, until more recently I didn’t realize Rosemira Organics made a lip balm. I had searched for ages for an organic one that was buttery soft and actually worked leaving lipstruly moisturized. Turns out they are everything. Thank You Very Much is sophisticated, freshly scented and somehow even exotic. It’s my absolute favorite, but she makes a handful of beautifully scented lip balms-including banana! All work beautifully well. I don’t know how she does it, but Mira is a wizardress with formulations and coming up with the best names!

Beespa Hand & Foot Cream

For your feet that take you everywhere, Beespa Hand & Foot Cream is one treat not to skip. It can be used anytime, yet sleeping with it on your feet not only deeply moisturizes them, but it also smooths, removes excess skin and softens them big time. The scent is honey and lightly spice-like. It’s my favorite foot cream, and it is waiting for you at the shop!

So these are my tips. I hope you’ve enjoyed reading them, and even more so, that they help! Happy change of season.
